A console modder dubbed GingerOfOz just surprised us with a new home console-turned-handheld – using a PS2, which he turned into the “PS2 Eclipse”.

Essentially, he shaved down the initial PS2 motherboard and inserted it into a 3D printed case together with PlayStation Vita buttons, Nintendo Switch joysticks, batteries, custom circuit boards and a 5-inch 480p display. Users should expect a battery life of approximately two and a half hours.

The design shouldn’t have any compatibility issues with the console’s library of almost 4,000 games due to its original PS2 hardware.
Of course, some titles can stumble as the console loads games gradually off a USB drive.

As for the drawbacks, the modder says is not planning on selling the consoles as he did with his earlier portable Wii – but here’s how to build your own portable.
GingerOfOz also said the console can face difficulties at times in detecting that there’s a controller connected, therefore some games will resist loading, an issue he hopes to fix in software at some point.
