Deceivingly ordinary, Merge Cube is a smart toy most wouldn’t look twice at. Best case scenario, passers-by would associate it with a Sci-Fi series, like Stargate SG-1. But if they took out their phones, look at it through the camera, they’d discover what we did at IFA Berlin: a whole new world, an entire solar system.
See, Magic Cube is like Pandora’s Box with an AR twist. The first time we saw it at the stand in the Showstoppers area, we didn’t know what to think of it. Not until the company behind the concept told us about the way it’s supposed to be enjoyed – with a smartphone, that is.
The toy is an augmented reality device. Once paired with the companion app, it becomes an educational tool. It brings up different information on the screen in an interactive, fun way.
Merge Cube can be a home-schooling tool or just something siblings can bond over. We appreciated the fact that it is encouraging curiosity and is making the learning process more engaging and magical.
