Nokia launched its Nokia 3310 phone 19 years ago – it actually came of age on September 1st – and it was an instant success. In time, it became one of the company’s most iconic devices and, even so many years later, it’s still getting praises. Its legendary durability has been showcased in numerous damage tests, one more severe than the other and even garnered it cult-status in the meme-world.
Back then, the phone featured what were considered rare and innovative features for the time such as a Nokia network monitor, a stop watch, a reminder function as well as yet another legend: the Snake II game.
The Nokia 3310 is a device most millennials (and not only) remember fondly, as an emblem of times gone past.
However, we might get to see the phone revived, at least if a recent tweet from HMD Global Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, is to be interpreted as such. Sarvikas posted a teaser video at the end of August which showed some cracked ground and the date of September 5th. The Tweet said only that whatever it is that’s coming, will be “The ultimate sidekick for your adventures” and that it is heading for Berlin’s IFA this year.

It’s not hard to imagine Sarvikas might actually be talking about Nokia 3310’s durability here.
Sarvikas took to Twitter again for the phone’s anniversary at the beginning of the month saying that “We will pay the legend the ultimate homage this Thursday” – and added some Nokia 3310 memes alongside the Tweet, just to get the point across. This is widely regarded as a sign that the Nokia 3310 will be making a comeback, in some shape or form.
Nokia has launched an updated variant of the phone back in 2017, which had a color display and dual-sim capabilities. The company has done this with a handful of other ‘classic’ phones in the past so we won’t be surprised to see the most notorious of them all make a big comeback.
Nokia might also announce the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 during the event: these contemporary smartphones are expected to feature 48MP cameras and one of them will be powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset.
