Nreal Air AR Glasses Launch In Japan, Get World-First TÜV Rheinland Certification

If you think the future of eyewear is smart sunglasses, check out the Nreal AR Glasses that just launched in Japan and will hopefully be available worldwide soon.

We got a chance to try a previous model, the Nreal Light, back at CES 2019. Since we found them to be the most comfortable smart glasses we tried so far, we have high hopes for the Nreal Air AR model.

The company is proud of winning a world-first TÜV Rheinland certification for low blue light and flicker free, highlighting that it’s the first pair of glasses like these to have this accreditation.

So, what do they offer?

Nreal says that the Air has an “IMAX-sized” screen that can expand to multiple large virtual screens in “MR Space” mode for compatible phones.

These AR glasses have 1080p Micro-OLED displays for each eye with a 46-degree field of view (FoV) and 49 pixels per degree (PPD).

To make the experience more immersive, they have super-linear speakers with a bass enhancement algorithm, noise cancellation capabilities, a dual mike array and omnidirectional MEMS microphones. The model we previously tried came with DTS audio, so it’s likely that the Nreal Air will also offer a premium audio experience.

Alongside the Air glasses, Nreal also launched an Nreal Streaming Box that extends their compatibility with more smartphones – it lets users mirror cast from their phone to the Nreal Air or the Nreal Light AR Glasses.

As we said before, Nreal glasses are already available in Japan, where people can try them in-person at partner stores. They’ll also be available online starting with March 4.
