Jeff Bezos’ rocket company Blue Origin just named its first paying customer, an 18 years old Dutch teenager – Oliver Daemen.
He will also be the youngest person to travel to space in history and on July 20th will join Jeff, Mark Bezos, and pilot Wally Funk on the space launch of the New Shepard rocket.
The lucky teenager obtained a spot on the July 20 trip after the person who initially won the spot in an auction couldn’t make it anymore. He always had an attraction for space, the Moon, and has been working toward getting his pilot’s license,” Blue Origin stated.
Oliver, who is planning to attend Utrecht University in the Netherlands to study physics and innovation management the experience feels like a dream come true as “I’ve been dreaming about this all my life. Now I’ll become the youngest astronaut ever.”
“The launch marks the beginning of commercial operations for New Shepard, and Oliver represents a new generation of people who will help us build a road to space,” Blue Origin CEO Bob Smith said in his announcement.
If Oliver will be the youngest person to travel to space, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, his brother Mark Bezos and Wally Funk, who will be the oldest person to do so.
