Next-generation launches are right around the corner! In a non-pandemic year, people would begin lining up outside their local retailers in order to get one of the limited in-store stock. This year, it appears that there may be a significant change in how we get launch-day consoles.
According to a post by Senior Director, SIE Content Communications Sid Shuman, no PlayStation 5 consoles will be available for in store purchase on either the November 12th or November 19th launch day. Even as it is tradition to line up, Shuman notes that it is not safe to do so this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Shuman notes that pre-ordered consoles may still be able to picked-up at retailers or may be shipped, depending on the retailer’s protocols. It is unclear if consoles ordered on launch-day will undergo the same restrictions as pre-ordered ones.
