The Samsung Portable SSD X5 is able to deliver 2,800MB/s read speeds and 2,300MB/s write speeds, and it comes with a ThunderBolt 3 USB-C connection that can put up with up to 40Gbps worth of bandwidth. Did that get your attention?
The new portable drive is capable of transferring a 20GB 4K video file in just 12 seconds and the company states that the users should expect the drive the be 5.2 times faster than the SATA interface portable SSD’s.
The only downside to it is the fact that is requires either a Mac or a PC that has a compatible ThunderBolt 3 port for use, so it’s not compatible with older computers and, if connected to a regular USB, it simply won’t power up.
The drive has a non-slip bottom mat in red (as pictured above) while the rest of the body is metal. Apparently it’s drop-resistant as well.
It will ship worldwide starting September 3rd, with a starting price of $400 for the 500GB version, $700 for the 1TB one, while the 2TB model will have a price tag of $1,400.
