The company that owns Rockstar Games has sued Remedy Entertainment over its new logo.
According to Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, Remedy Entertainment’s new “R” logo looks way too similar to the one Rockstar has.
Take Two claims it could cause “confusion on the part of the public”, though it’s highly unlikely that would confuse any fan of Remedy, famous for the Max Payne and Alan Wake series. Or indeed, a Rockstar Games fan, a company who has become, well, a rockstar, thanks to the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead series. Not to mention that, you know, the only thing those two logos above have in common is that they have the letter “R”.
Still, copyright and patent laws being as they are, companies are forced to defend any possible infringement in order to protect their trademark. This is is probably just a kneejerk reaction from Rockstar’s lawyers, considering we’re looking at two of the most famous game developers in the world..
As RespawnFirst reports, TakeTwo filed their objection immediately after Remedy publicly unveiled their new logo last year.
“The bullet in the letter R in the old logo represented the era of Max Payne, but the Remedy of now is much bigger than a single game; we have a whole portfolio of games, new and old.
It was time to update and redefine our visual identity to bring more consistency, showcase our evolution over the years, and better express our vision of today’s Remedy,” wrote the company in a blog post, referencing their success with games like Control and Alan Wake.
