Minecraft and Sonic the Hedgehog are teaming up in a unique collaboration.
In an official trailer posted on the official Minecraft YouTube account, the company released some images and gameplay footage of the block-based Sonic. In previews, the world of Sonic the Hedgehog has been recreated within the Minecraft Universe.
Not only will players get skins of several Sonic characters – Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, Amy, and Shadow, among others – they will be able to experience some of the original gameplay as it translates into Minecraft. That is, players will explore iconic locations like Green Hill Zone, collect rings, find hidden chaos emeralds, battle enemies and bosses, and more. The Chao Garden even makes an appearance, potentially bringing the pet simulator into Minecraft.
This collaboration comes in the midst of Sonic’s 30th Anniversary, a big multi-part celebration of the blue blur’s iconic debut. Even with Sonic’s ups and downs as a franchise, it still has a significant fan base. Given Minecraft’s own popularity, this collaboration will surely be a hit for many.
