Sony may be gearing up to provide a premium service including a new acquisition.
According to reports by Eurogamer (via VGC), Sony is currently discussing offering a Crunchyroll subscription to its existing PlayStation Plus service. This would be part of a new premium tier, with subscribers paying more for access to both services.
Crunchyroll was acquired by Sony in December 2020, but the transaction was only completed earlier this week. Crunchyroll is largely an anime streaming service and with Sony already owning Funimation, the company is fairly dominant within the animation streaming market.
It is certainly yet to be seen if or how this plan will be implemented. While there is an overlap between the gaming and anime-watching community, there are not perfectly aligned.
