Sony Releases The Xperia 10 III Lite in Japan

Sony

Sony released the Xperia 10 III a few months ago but the release of the Lite version of the phone in the company’s home country, Japan, has been without fanfare, in spite of the fact that the device, when compared to its sibling, still packs a punch.

In what way? Well, let’s go through the specs.

To begin with, the device is powered by the same Snapdragon 690 as the other model and features the same 6-inch OLED FHD+ resolution in 21:9, with HDR support. The resolution is of 2,520 x 1,080 pixels and overall, the device is pretty compact: it has a depth of 8.3 mm, with a width of 68 mm and weighs 169 grams.

The device has a 4,500mAh battery, with 30W fast charging support.

The big difference between the devices stands in the internal memory: 64GB, when compared to Xperia 10 III’s 128GB.
You still have the option of expanding the memory via a microSD card, but you can only place one card in the Xperia 10 III Lite, while its older brother has dual-SIM functionality. The FM tuner also doesn’t make an appearance on the Lite version.

It will run on Android 11 out of the box  and will most likely receive an Android 12 update once the new OS version becomes available.

Among its other features, we can find Bluetooth 5.1, GPS, a headphone jack and a Type-C port. We’ll find a fingerprint sensor on the right side of the device, just under the power button.

The Xperia III Lite also has an IP68 certification, offering protection against water and dust. Connectivity-wise, we will find it compatible with 5G and 4G LTE.

In terms of design, the device doesn’t really stand out: it has a notchless design, with the selfie camera set up slightly to the left at the top.
The back looks like a glossy material, with a vertical camera module, accompanied by an LED flash. The design is clean and stays in line with how we expect a smartphone to look nowadays. Overall, it’s pretty inconspicuous.

The smartphone will be available in Japan in black, white, blue and pink/coral color options, as of August 27th.

It will cost  JPY 46,800, which translates, roughly, to around $426. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any information regarding availability and we don’t know if Sony has any plans to release the smartphone globally or in just a few other select locations.
