The new 5G implementation could arrive as early as 2021, as Qualcomm already unveiled the new 5G-enabled Snapdragon 690, aiming to bring the fast communication technology to the 4th, entry-level Snapdragon 4-series chipsets.
The Snapdragon 4, entry-level series chipset, is perfect for affordable devices and caters in special to emerging markets. Although we don’t know what kind of speeds we can expect, or any technical information, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, stated that the Chinese manufacturing giant plans to be the first OEM to develop a smartphone with the Snapdragon’s 4-series 5G-enabled mobile platform.
This could mean that we expect 5G phones powered by the Snapdragon 4-series chipsets to have an asking price of around 200/250$ US capable of sub-6 5G. There is also the possibility that manufacturers will dip even further, and present at the end of 2021 5G phones, with the Snapdragon 4, with asking prices of around 150$ US.
The 5G networks are a long way from working at top efficiency, but with more and more capable devices stressing the speed and durability of the communication system, the infrastructure will continue to grow. And with 5G being available in 34 countries on more than 80 networks, affordable devices that can access the communications highway are imperative.
