Tesla collaborated with Lost Surfboards to create a branded, limited edition surfboard of their own. The product went live on the Tesla online shop sometime early Saturday morning and it already sold out.

Most solid, reliable surfboards cost somewhere around $700-800, so what does the Tesla surfboard have so special, aside from being a unit from the 200-pieces limited edition series?

The page for the branded board states the following:

“Designed by the Tesla Design Studio in collaboration with Lost Surfboards and Matt “Mayhem” Biolos, surfboard shaper for World Surf League Championship athletes. The Limited Edition Tesla Surfboard features a mix of the same high-quality matte and gloss finishes used on all our cars. The deck is reinforced with light-weight “Black Dart” carbon fiber, inspired by the interiors in our cars, and featuring tonal logos in subtle contrast gloss.”

With the help of professional board maker Matt Biolos, the design should hold up against the waves quite nicely, but most surfers who glide across the waters with their battered mini mals would probably roll their eyes at it.

At the end of the day, the Tesla board appears to be geared towards collectors and is not necessarily fit to actually ride the wave. Also, it doesn’t come with fins.
