The Nokia 8110 (1996) lives on as one of the iconic phones of the early generation of cellular phones. Neo from The Matrix used it in some of the movies scenes and for some, it was their first ever phone. Well at Mobile World Congress, HMD Global threw us back to the late ’90s with their new Nokia 8110 4G, known by many as the Banana Phone. #mobilemagic
“Reloaded” and upgraded, the iconic black cellphone is now also available in yellow, the color of the banana, and retains its awesome curvature. It has a slider just like the original, but it only powers on the display and unveils the keyboard. The buttons are more flat than the original iteration and the screen is in color.
While there’s no touchscreen to speak of, there is 4G LTE connectivity. It also runs OS and Snake, a classic game necessary for Nokia nostalgics.
Definitely playing to the slightly older generation who knew and used the original Nokia phones, the Nokia 8110 4G does get the nostalgia feeling right while bringing the phone into the 21st Century. Although it isn’t filled with top of the line features, it sure is filled with a bunch of memories!
