Remember MegaBots? If you don’t, we can’t blame you. The team of American engineers announced over two years ago they would put their giant robot to test against Japan’s 13-foot mech. Well, now it seems they’re ready to keep their promise with a duel set for August #machinemagic
Since 2015, MegaBots have been posting updates of their work-in-progress robot and the time and place of the duel. However, nothing happened so far. We were inclined to believe the big fight would never take place but yesterday, MegaBots gave the green sign – the duel was confirmed. In this unprecedented match, their latest robot, dubbed Mk. III, will fight against Kuratas, the huge bot from Japanese company Suidobashi Heavy Industries.
Is Mk. III ready to bring the belt home, to the United States? We can’t really say, since MegaBots have so far shown only bits and pieces of the combat bot on their social media accounts. From what they’ve said, Mk. III is going to be a 16-feet tall piloted metal titan and will weigh over 12,000 pounds.
“Doing this the right way took a year longer to plan and coordinate than we wanted, for a bunch of reasons. We’re keeping the location secret so we can guarantee there will be no more delays. Keep an eye out for more updates about the Mk.III and the Giant Robot Duel soon!”, wrote the team on YouTube. Until August, you can keep a lookout for the unveiling of the entire robot and see how it matches Kuratas:
Those of you who live in the San Francisco Bay Area will be able to meet the engineers and see the mech in real life. Then, in August, the confrontation will be streamed on the Facebook and YouTube channels of both MegaBots and Suidobashi.
