Unannounced Chromecast Accidentally Sold To Unsuspecting Customer

Seems like Google can’t rest even for a moment before its October 9th event: not only have the Google Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3XL been paraded about all across the internet, now a Reddit user seems to have been sold a new, unreleased Chromecast in a Best Buy by mistake.

Reddit user GroveStreetHomie says he noticed that the Chromecast packaging and design was different from the first one he had.

I thought it was just a design refresh taking queues from the Chromecast Ultra. Then when I was at the cashier, they couldn’t scan the item because it wasn’t in the system yet because the release date is on the 9th of October (Same day as the 2018 Google event) but I guess they put it out too early.” he continues “But since I already had it in my hand and was the same price as the 2nd generation Chromecast, they let me have it under the old SKU.”

In the photos the user posted on Reddit of the two devices side by side, we can see that the model has a matte finish and looks a bit thicker thicker than the previous version. Allegedly, the new Chromecast would include Bluetooth and more powerful WiFi. Unfortunately, the Reddit user was unable to set it up, as Google Home stated it still needed an update, so there is no way to confirm any new features.

We hope Google has a few tricks up its sleeve for the October 9th event though because, by now, there’s very little we don’t already know about it.
