Recently, Chinese manufacturer Vivo came up with a surprise in the form of a smartphone prototype that integrates a color-changing glass back, that magically shifts through different hues.
See the result in this video shared directly by Vivo on Social Media, stating that the complex technology behind the design led to the amazing product.
Vivo is using a unique electrochromic glass back that shifts from purple color to silver as you rotate the phone, while its battery is not affected by this.
It appears to be using the same tech that OnePlus employed in its Concept One phone to obscure its rear camera from view. The glass is switched by an electric impulse and electrochromic glass is very common among skylights and glass offices.
So far, we don’t know whether the prototype will turn into an actual commercial product, but such a design could be appealing to consumers who have difficulties choosing a color when buying a phone.
