Hyundai Mobis has developed a number of technologies that can be used on level 4 and 5 autonomous vehicles, which means that they don’t require the driver’s attention to be directed to the road ahead.
One of their most interesting technologies is the virtual touch which works on displaying info and entertainment panels and can also recognize a driver’s air gestures which control the system’s features.
For example, if the driver is watching a movie while the car is driving in autonomous mode, they can tap the air to either choose another movie or adjust the volume. The cameras inside the vehicle will capture the driver’s eye movement and gestures and activate the touch feature when both the eye movement and the gestures are directed towards the same spot.
This virtual touch technology comes with a windshield display. The display is transparent during manual driving and blacks out when the driver switches to the autonomous mode.
Hyundai Mobis also promises something called emotion recognition technology which enables the car’s AI to categorize both the driver’s and the passenger’s emotions and change the ambiance or play music according to what it sees.
These technologies will be showcased by Hyundai Mobis during the CES 2019 that will take place in Las Vegas in January.
