Big smartphone manufacturers like Samsung are already progressing on this niche market, offering high-end foldable phones like the extremely expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.
Recently, some rumors and leaks pointed to the fact that Xiaomi may be the next phone manufacturer to release a foldable phone.
According to an XDA discovery, coming from the Chinese beta of MIUI 12, there are things pointing to a product codenamed “Cetus”.
The findings also highlight a fragment of code that may indicate a tracking procedure belonging to the folding state of the device.
Other details about the so-called ‘Cetus’ and its state of development are not available from XDA, but it looks like Cetus will integrate a 108MP primary camera and a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor while running MIUI on Android 11.
LetsGoDigital found a patent Samsung filed regarding a new system for a foldable display. The design has one expansive display where both ends could fold around the sides, comparable to what Xiaomi is planning to release.
