Xiaomi is known for copying anything under the sun and creating dupes with similar specs and smaller price tags and now the company is going for Amazon as well.
It now introduced the Xiaomi Mi Reader, an e-book reader that’s going to give the Kindle a run for its money.
The Xiaomi Mi Reader sports a 6-inch 1024 x 768 e-Ink display with a 24-level adjustable LED reading light, a feature that’s already something not found in base Kindle models.
It also runs Android 8.1 Oreo with support for Baidu Cloud and multi-view cloud one-click login and download.
More importantly, this e-book reader supports a variety of formats: .txt, .epub, .pdf and MS Office documents.
Under the hood, the e-reader has 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, which translates to some 5,000 stored ebooks.
It’s powered by a 1,800 mAh battery that uses a Type-C USB port and Xiaomi says it can run for several weeks on a single charge.
As with most e-readers, there aren’t a lot of customization options. The Xiaomi Mi Reader has a gray grippy backplate and a white front side.
The Xiaomi Mi Reader was announced for China only at a price tag of around $80 and is available on the Xi Crowdfunding platform.
While the company’s previous offering, the Smart Paper tablet, was definitely more exciting, it was also $380, so the Mi Reader hits the perfect spot for a device that does one thing alone.
