Xiaomi is well-known for making very affordable phones for affordable prices but that might not be the case for too long, according to CEO Lei Jun.
In a video that arrives from TechNode, Lei Jun states that “we want to get rid of this reputation that our phones cost less than RMB 2,000. We want to invest more and make better products.”
He also adds that the Xiaomi Mi9 might actually turn out to be the last smartphone that will cost under RMB 3,000 ($446) – as it is, the Transparent Edition (also knows as the Alita: Battle Angel edition) is selling for RMB 3,999 ($595).
Of course, this will most likely mean that the users will be benefiting from an improved build quality, maybe water resistance and more RAM and storage but, of course, that remains to be seen.
