Yes, Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis Is Finally Coming Out

Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis is one of the most anticipated sci-fi movies around, being something the legendary director has thought about since the 80s. Now, since it has Adam Driver attached to it, even more people are looking forward to it. A Coppola scifi and an Adam Driver love story to boot? Sign us up!

And the good news? It’s finally happening.

In a recent episode of the Accutron podcast, Coppola says Megalopolis still needs a few months of post-production and it will be ready for the theaters.

The director revealed shooting wrapped up in March 2023 and even had reshoots during the SAG-AFTRA strikes thanks to an agreement.

So, what can we expect from it?

Gizmodo quotes Coppola as promising an “unusual and never boring” movie.

So far, we know that Megalopolis will see Adam Driver as someone in charge of rebuilding society in a better way.

“Billed as an epic sci-fi drama and a love story, Megalopolis stars Adam Driver as Caesar, an architect looking to rebuild New York City into a utopia after a “devastating disaster.” His progressive views end up clashing with his lover’s father, who’s described as having a more classical view of society. The film’s cast also includes Nathalie Emmanuel, Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Shia LeBeouf, Aubrey Plaza, and Giancarlo Esposito. “

For his part, Driver told Collider that Coppola’s Megalopolis is “so imaginative and big and epic and bold.”  

I for one can’t wait. While I was incredibly underwhelmed by Adam Driver in 65, I loved his performance in Noah Baumbach’s White Noise and would love to see him in more cerebral scifi roles. When he’s finished playing legendary Italians, maybe?
