Yes to the Notch? Sharp Has a Phone With Two of Them

Sharp

To spice up the holiday season, Japanese smartphone company Sharp decided to add another notch to the screen of their newest device, the Aquos R2 Compact.

If you haven’t heard of Sharp yet, they’re the ones behind Razer’s high frame rate screen and they have worked with Essential for theirs as well.

Sharp’s Aquos R2 has a 5.2 inch 2280 x 1080 IGZO LCD screen that wraps itself nicely around the camera and the fingerprint sensor. While the screen does not go all the way down to the bottom of the device, it does offer a generous amount of screen space.

It has a Snapdragon 845 under the hood, which is no small thing, but that SoC comes alongside with a 2,500mAh battery, which is not necessarily the best news for the device. It has a solid metal frame with acrylic material on the back.

The R2 has 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage that can be expanded to up to 512GB via the microSD slot. It has a 22.6 megapixel camera with a 2mm f/1.9 lens and it runs on Android 9 Pie.

It also has a headphone jack and a waterproof IP68 rating.

For now, the phone is only available in Japan.
