iOS and iPadOS users can now use Face Id to lock the Facebook Messenger app as an extra layer of security. The app can be locked every time users exit or shortly after, requering face id or touch to access the inbox again.

Facebook is calling the new feature App Lock and has been testing it since the beginning of June. The messaging app is also getting a new Privacy section to the app’s settings, so users can manage things like App Lock and blocked chats.

App Lock could be useful in a situation when you hand over your unlocked phone to someone, and they still can’t access your Messenger inbox. Facebook says the new feature is coming to Android in “the next few months.

App Lock is part of several changes Facebook is bringing to the Messenger App’s privacy and safety. The company is working on adding a feature allowing you to decide who can message or call you directly, who goes to your requests folder, and who can’t message or call you at all.

Facebook recently changed the interface for its web app and is continuously working on updating its services to suit users’ requests.
