Update: Check out our exclusive interview with Jeff Yee, from ZTE, during Mobile World Congress 2018, below:
We’ll have to wait a while to enjoy 5G speeds on our smartphones. But time can pass faster if ZTE has something to say about it. The company is set to show the Gigabit Phone at Mobile World Congress this month #mobilemagic
ZTE intends to unveil at this edition of MWC their first gigabit LTE smartphone. This is going to be one of the first devices to adapt at the new era of speed, paving the way for other industry initiatives. We don’t know much else about the smartphone, other than its capability to shoot 360-degree VR and 4K video with instant cloud storage.
Qualcomm is another company set on making 5G the new 4G. Last year, it partnered up with Netgear, Ericsson, Telstra to build the first mobile hotspot for 1Gps downloads through Telstra networks. In 2017, they are pushing boundaries once again with a gigabit LTE modem on their Snapdragon 835 processor. As you can imagine, things like mixed reality content and cloud services will happen on the fly with this processor.
Other reasons to wait eagerly for February 27th and the debut of MWC 2017? The relaunch of Nokia 3310 as well as the new Nokia smartphones, a bezel-less LG G6 phone , a BlackBerry Mercury with great camera and smartwatches running the new Android Wear 2.0.
