Pre-orders for Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback were made available last week and, within the first day, the car registered more than 10,000 pre-booking registrations for Europe.
Then again, Tesla had about 232,000 pre-orders in 24 hours worldwide, for the Model 3 version, three years ago.
Considering the massive amount of orders, the production of the electric hatchback will be limited to 30,000 vehicles. Especially since the demand proved to be too much for VW’s systems:
“Sometimes, the IT systems are unable to handle a large number of users accessing the system at the same time. This leads to long waiting times and interruptions in the registration process in some markets. Volkswagen is working hard to eliminate the hitches.”
If you are a fan, you can register online with a €1,000 deposit to get your hands on the special edition ID.3 1ST electric hatchback, which sells for €40,000, in comparison to the base model that costs less than €30,000.
Also, by preordering the ID.3 1ST you get an important benefit – a “first-year up to a maximum of 2,000 kWh” with IONITY network and other charging networks partnering with VW.
Volkswagen officially stated its plan to produce 200 pre-production models of the ID.3 in a press release. Although expected to start by the end of 2019, VW notes updated the timeline of delivery of the vehicles to mid-2020.
The ID.3 will come in three different battery pack options, a 45 kWh, 58 kWh, or 77 kWh battery pack, for the basic production model.
