You thought finding the right picture after a keyword was useless, with all the millions of pictures out there? Think again. Photo-editing app 500px found probably the worst way to search for images #fotomagic
Many of us, myself included, need to find dozens of photos daily for work or inspiration. We might be photography-inclined, but that doesn’t mean we’re any good at drawing and painting. Even so, app 500px launched a feature called Splash that encourages us to search for pictures using a brush. Paint the thing you want to find on their platform, in the color you need and select the category (landscapes, animals, portraits, and travel). Afterwards, you should get images similar to what you’ve drawn.
But what if your drawings are children works?! Believe me, they can be, as this Verge editor found out. The engine will send back geese and cats instead of your Jake Gyllenhaal/Taylor Swift query. Sad and time-wasting? Yes and yes. The only thing that might work is searching for photos that contain a color, instead of a subject; with that request, Splash should do better.
