In a couple of weeks, we’ll see Samsung Galaxy S8 in all its glory. Leaks have been pouring lately, so we’re almost certain how the smartphone is going to look like. Now, there’s word the South Korean manufacturer will include a third biometric system to the phone’s security suite: facial recognition #mobilemagic
According to a report from The Investor, Samsung is going to make sure Galaxy S8 comes with the best security in town. While fingerprint recognition is a given, iris scanning capabilities for the S8 is still a rumor but one that we find extremely probable. After all, that was one of the winning technologies embedded by Samsung in its Galaxy Note 7. It’s no wonder that the company wants to add it to their 2017 flagship smartphone.
But that’s just the start. The Investor reports Samsung is also going to use facial recognition software for Galaxy S8. With that in the cards, it seems the phone will have three means of authentication, satisfying the needs of the most private Android users. The same rumor was circulating on the Korea Economic Daily where a Samsung official was cited: “Due to some limits of iris scanning such as speed and accuracy, we have decided to add facial recognition to the Galaxy S8. With a face scanner, it will take less than 0.01 seconds to unlock the phone.”
It’s hard to say whether these security measures are going to make the phone impossible to hack since more doesn’t necessarily mean better. Iris and facial scanning will have to work flawlessly in most lighting conditions and feature liveness detection to keep your data safe (read about them here), among other things.
If that happens though, you’ll have a pretty kickass phone on your hands this coming March 29!
