We know by now Apple is getting ready for a delayed release of the new iPhone 12 and is working on four variants. The new flagship is set to arrive a month or two later than the usual September launch, with more models than we are used to seeing.
Apple completed the second phase of Engineering Validation and Testing (EVT) of the iPhone 12 series by submitting nine new certifications with the EEC for unannounced devices, according to MySmartPrice. The filing consists in never before listed iPhones – the A2172, A2176, A2341, A2342, A2399, A2403, A2407, A2408, and the A2411.
We know there will be four variants of the iPhone 12, so why does Apple need so many certifications? Well, it’s probably because there will be models for different carriers and network standards. Or maybe, Apple has something up its sleeve and is launching more iPhones than everyone expects.
Apple already launched the iPhone SE this year, and this fall it will be releasing one entry-level 6.1″ iPhone 12 with low-res display and two cameras, one smaller 5.4″ model, again with two cameras, and 6.1″ and 6.7″ 12 Pro and Max models with three cameras, all with OLED displays.
