If you didn’t check your mail today you might have missed the latest PSA from apple: update your Apple devices now!
Apple just sent out an emergency security update for iPhones, Macs and even Apple Watches, designed to eliminate a vulnerability that could be exploited by the Pegasus spyware.
Responsible for the major Jeff Bezos hack from a while back, the Pegasus spyware is a serious piece of malware, capable of looking at your messages, listening to your calls and stealing most of the data in your device.
Developed by Israel-based NSO group, the Pegasus Spyware is a “zero-click remote execution” malware, so it can be installed by attackers without any input from the user.
Last year, Amazon’s head Jeff Bezos was targeted by Pegasus, showing how even the most powerful and tech savvy individuals were helpless against this malware.
The Bezos hack made headlines when attackers stole data from Bezos’ phone and attempted to blackmail him.
Now, more than a year and a half later, there’s no knowing how this malware might have evolved, so make sure all your devices are updated to remain protected.
To update your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, then General, and pick the Software Updates option to get the iOS 14.8 or iPadOS 14.8 patches.
To update your Mac, click the Apple Icon, choose “About this Mac” and select Software Update to install MacOS 11.6.
To update Apple Watch, you’ll have to connect to WiFi and open the Settings App, then General, then Software Update.
