Suunto 5 Peak Loses Weight, Gains 60 Hours of Battery Life

We’re no strangers to Suunto‘s fitness watches and the way they’ve evolved in the past years but Suunto 5 Peak is in a category of its own.

After reviewing our share of great smartwatches and coming into contact with Suunto 7, we didn’t think the company could surprise us again.

But they did exactly that with an iteration that’s lost plenty of weight but gained a whole lot more.

Suunto 5 Peak is much more light than its predecessor, weighing just 39 grams. This drastic weight loss is noticeable at design level too. By comparison with Suunto 5, this watch doesn’t have a bulky GPS nose.

The other good news is the increased battery life. We’re talking a major upgrade, from the 40 hours of life Suunto 5 promised to the 100 hours its successor guarantees in Tour mode (continous GPS mode).

Of course, that life drops to 40 hours or even 20 hours of usage when different sport tracking features are enabled.

And there’s plenty to track here! Suunto 5 Peak comes with over 80 sport modes and the ability to track steps, heart rate, recovery, and sleep. Plus, the watch didn’t just drop some weight – it can also estimate the carbs and fat the user burns during a workout.

Of course, the heatmap offered by Suunto 7 returns and by doing so, remains one of the highlights of the smartwatch and a pretty good reason to buy.

The Suunto 5 Peak comes in six colors and is already available for pre-order. The device will be available through selected retailers in February and globally this spring.
