This Is What Happens If You Shoot The Eclipse Without Filter

If you live in North America now, it’s pretty much impossible to take your eyes from the sky. A solar eclipse is unfolding right about now and it’s always a miracle to behold. But before you get the camera out and start taking shots in your euphoric state, make sure you don’t make this rookie mistake #fotomagic

During a total solar eclipse, it’s not just important to protect your eyes from the harmful, intense rays of the Sun, but also your camera equipment. The guys from Iowa’s Every Photo Store sacrificed one camera to show just what can full, direct exposure to the Sun during such a phenomenon can do.

They attached a Canon 400mm f/2.8 IS II lens to a Canon body and set the shutter for six seconds. It didn’t take longer to basically melt it, as you could see smoke coming up.

The lesson here is don’t burn your expensive, sweet DSLR just to take a shot of the solar eclipse. Don’t do it unless you have the proper filters around. Just enjoy it!
