Two years ago, in December, Apple debuted AirPods to mixed reviews. In time, fans warmed up to the idea to the point where, this year, Apple is thinking of launching a second generation with important improvements. Rumor is one of them will be Siri support, tap-free #objectmagic
According to Bloomberg, the Cupertino giant is working on fitting a new wireless chip on the 2nd-gen wireless earphones and enhanced Siri support. What does it mean? Well, if AirPods launched with the ability to summon Siri with a double-tap, now Apple might consider bypassing that step and using voice recognition to activate the smart assistant with a “Hey Siri”.
Presumably, the digital assistant would then control the music and read messages (plus access other features) instantly, upon voice command.
Besides this improvement, Tim Cook and the team are considering full-on water resistance for the next AirPods model. Granted, the current earbuds can be used when it rains or snows, but they are not rated accordingly. That said, we’ll have to wait more than a couple of months to see this feature in the wild.
In 2018, Apple will probably bring just a wireless charging AirPods case and AirPods 2 with “Hey Siri” functionality. The accessory will accompany the AirPower charging mat you’ve seen in the store since late fall.
Meanwhile, Apple is having quite a few problems with pesky drones – have you seen this quadcopter crash into the new headquarters’ solar roof?
