Facebook’s standalone virtual reality headset Oculus Go will launch in early May, according to a Variety report.
Quoting a few sources close to Facebook, Variety states that the Oculus Go will be present at the Facebook F8 Developer Conference. This makes sense as a Facebook rep teased back in February that the F8 will bring the “biggest AR/VR news” to date. #realitymagic
The $200 Oculus Go was announced last October and drew the attention of those looking to get a budget VR headset. Unlike Samsung’s Gear VR, the Oculus Go is a standalone VR headset that isn’t just compatible with Samsung phones, but with other Android smartphones and iPhones as well. It can also be used without a smartphone due to its huge, 1000 app portfolio.
While it has the same field-of-view as Oculus Rift, the Oculus Go won’t come with inside-out tracking or completely tracked motion. However, it does come with a 2560 x 1440 screen with spatial audio, meaning you won’t need to wear headphones.
