Only a month after Samsung announced the world’s largest solid-state drive (SSD) with its 30.72 TB offering, data storage company Nimbus Data shattered that record. Clocking in at an impressive 100 TB, their ExaDrive DC100 has pushed the limits of memory expectations in SSDs.
The ExaDrive DC100 has an unassuming 3.5 inch form factor and SATA interface, meaning higher transfer rates. For perspective, Nimbus Data states that you can fit “20 million songs, 20,000 HD movies, or 2,000 iPhones worth of data” inside their 100 TB SSD.
Similar to the Samsung 30.72 SSD, this is hardware is designed for enterprise use and the price reflects that. “Pricing will be similar to existing enterprise SSDs on a per-terabyte basis while offering 85% lower operating costs,” said Nimbus Data in the press release. Using just 0.1 watts per terabyte, it offers 85% less power consumption than its closest competitor.
The price of the 100 TB SSD is still an unknown, but given a 15.36 SSD costs around $11,000, could cost upwards of $71,000.
