Sony Announces Xperia XZ2 Premium With Dual Camera And 4K Display

Just when the smartphone industry thought Sony had shown all they had when they showed off the Xperia XZ2 and the XZ2 Compact at the Mobile World Congress 2018, Sony surprised everyone. Only a month since the conference, Sony’s back with their newest addition to their smartphone collection: the Xperia XZ2 Premium.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium brings back some of the unique features that made the Xperia XZ2 so exciting. For example, just like the XZ2, the XZ2 Premium utilizes the Dynamic Vibration System to introduce rumble feedback, enhancing video watching and gaming experience. However, there are some serious upgrades to the premium edition. For one, the the XZ2’s 5.7 inch 1080 x 2160 px display has been replaced by a generous 5.8 inch 4K display.

The real star and upgrade, however, is the rear facing camera. The Xperia XZ2 Premium features a dual-rear camera, splitting image capture between a 19MP color sensor and a 12MP monochrome one. Sony also promises these cameras bring unparalleled video-capturing capability in low-light conditions. #mobilemagic

“Our revolutionary Motion Eye™ Dual camera can capture more than the naked eye can see. Built with technology from our exclusive α range cameras, taking photos in extreme low-light conditions is made possible with an incredible ISO 51200 sensitivity,” says Sony.

In addition to the rear facing camera, the battery and front facing camera were upgraded as well! While the XZ2 has a 3180 mAh battery and a 5 MP front camera, the XZ2 Premium has a solid 3540 mAh battery and goes for a 13 MP module with f/2.0 aperture. In other words, the XZ2 Premium has a longer battery life than the XZ2’s 36 hour battery life and the front camera takes extremely detailed selfies. While both the XZ2 and XZ2 Premium share the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, the XZ2 Premium offers 6GB of RAM by default. The XZ2 Compact carries just 4GB of RAM.

The Xperia XZ2 Premium will launch this summer worldwide, but could skip UK and Ireland because Sony says they’re pretty well represented in the UK market already with the XZ2 and XZ2 Compact. However, the decision to not launch the XZ2 Premium in the UK is not final, so there’s still hope for anyone in the UK hoping to get their hands on the XZ2 Premium!

Stay tuned for MWC Shanghai video coverage to see it in action!
