Honda had used the CES to debut a number of robots before and it doesn’t look like it wants to leave this tradition behind this year either – the company will be debuting a number of concept robots at the CES 2019, which will take place in January, in Las Vegas.
Honda’s newest robots will have the same aim as always: improve people’s lives. One of the robots the company will present is actually an autonomous vehicle which is a prototype of an off-road vehicle that was designed by Honda R&D Americas.
The vehicle has GPS and sensor-based autonomy that can guide it through pretty much any type of environment it might encounter. It has a rail accessory mount system for accessories and attachments as well as onboard power plug-ins.
The vehicle will debut under the name 3E-D18 and Honda will show real-world testing scenarios during the event. The vehicle has already been beta-tested in many different work environments such as with a large-scale solar operation company in North Carolina, a wildland firefighting division in Colorado and in agricultural and environmental sciences in a Californian college.
Honda will also showcase the P.A.T.H (Predicting Action of the Human) Bot, which moves smoothly in public spaces without interfering with people. It uses an onboard camera and sensors to identify its location and to be aware of is surroundings, this way it can move from destination to destination via optimal routes.
There’s also the Honda RaaS (Robotics as a Service) Platform which will offer data storage and sharing services, communication control, state transition and robot-to-robot cooperation via packages like the API*2 or the SDK*3.
These are just a few of the machines Honda will be showcasing at the CES and we’re quite curious to see them in action.
