According to an Electrek report, Tesla owners in the US, Canada, Europe, and Asia were unable to connect to their vehicles via the company’s app, while some of them couldn’t unlock their cars via Bluetooth – as they usually do, while some users reported they weren’t able to access their cars at all. Users were affected by the outage for a couple of hours.
Tesla owners alerted CEO Elon Musk via Twitter and he apologized and provided a short explanation for the outage – “accidentally increased verbosity of network traffic”.
According to the report, “The Tesla mobile app is an important part of the Tesla ownership experience. Phones are used as a key to unlock and start Tesla vehicles and Tesla owners can access a lot of controls through the mobile app.”
Among the issues that Tesla owners have encountered include being locked out of their vehicles in 2019, a complete network outage with internal systems being down last year.
