Amazon just announced an upgrade for all Echo devices out there that will make owners feel much happier when they’re leaving their home.
The company just deployed the Alexa Guard update, which turns usual Echo devices into home security devices when the owner’s not home.
By simply saying “Alexa, I’m leaving,” your Amazon Echo device will start actively listening for telltale signs of trouble while you’re out.
Featuring Smart Alerts that listen for sounds like smoke or carbon monoxide alarms, or simply the sound of breaking glass, the upgraded Echos will send you an alert on your phone containing the recording.
Amazon underlined that “Alexa Guard is not a replacement for an alarm system or life safety device and cannot contact emergency services, such as the police or fire department, on your behalf.”
However, the company says that, if you “connect a supported professionally-monitored security system to Guard, you can choose to forward Smart Alerts, including audio recordings of selected sounds, to your security service provider.”
You can also connect Alexa Guard to the Ring Alarm or ADT Pulse to easily voice control your dedicated security devices.
The upgrade just rolled out to all Echo devices in the US and will probably be available soon in other regions.
