Alibaba’s Driverless Robot to Deliver Packages

Alibaba

The G Plus Robot was announced by Alibaba at the 2018 Global Smart Logistics Summit and the tiny thing is really cute. But also quite smart.

The G Plus is intended to be a delivery robot that will ship products purchased online. Its storage lockers have facial recognition and they should allegedly keep the food orders warm as well.

The robot is able to carry multiple packages and can travel at a maximum speed of 9.3 mph. It has a navigation system (LIDAR ) that relies on a 3D map, which helps it avoid collisions – if it senses people and cars nearby, it will automatically reduce the speed to 6.2 mph.

When it reaches destination, it will deposit the package or it will give it directly to the customer, who can introduce a PIN code which will allow them to take the package.

The robot is currently being tested at the Alibaba headquarters in Hangzhou and the company intends to begin production sometime at the end of the year.

Might we see it at Mobile World Congress Shanghai? Only time will tell!
