You’ve probably heard about the Ambient OS for a couple of days, now. It probably came in a conversation or on a website in relation to Andy Rubin, Android’s co-founder, and the Essential ecosystem. But what is it exactly and how will it affect you? #softwaremagic
First of all, Ambient OS is an operating system Rubin and his team developed. No, it’s not the one running on their Phone, just on their home speaker, Essential Home.
As with all the other announcements Rubin has made this week, there aren’t many details lying around. Rubin wants it to be the remote control to your home, activating the devices and services found and connecting those with the needs of the house and its owners.
Unlike other systems, Ambient OS could create connections between different applications, running new ones on top of the old. Moreover, Rubin says it’s going to process them on the device itself.
To protect your data even more, Ambient OS is going to control all your home devices through the local data network and store information locally, as often as it is possible. By bypassing the cloud, the risk of data theft is substantially lowered.
Last but not least, Ambient OS wants to be an operating system that learns behavior patterns in time in order to SUGGEST actions, not take them itself.
Rubin was adamant that with Ambient OS, the user will be always in charge.
