Apple Admits New iPads Might Ship Bent, States It’s Perfectly Normal

You might remember that Zack Nelson from YouTube channel JerryRigEverything managed to bend an iPad Pro with his bare hands and without breaking a sweat. While that did raise some concerns about design flaws, they were quickly dismissed: who would just put effort into actively bending their own iPad in two anyway?

But it looks like in the past month, a number of users have reported that the new iPad Pros were either shipped with a slight bend, either started bending shortly after they were taken out of the box.

In a statement released to The Verge, Apple did admit that some of its 2018 iPad Pro models do ship with a slight bend in their aluminum chassis but that this bend is nothing but a “side effect of the manufacturing process” that should not get worse in time or otherwise affect the device’s performance in any way.

According to Apple the bend can be found on both sizes of the iPad Pro and is caused by a cooling process between the metal and plastic components that occurs during manufacturing.

At the moment, it’s not quite clear if this bend is considered a manufacturing defect, but, if you did get your hands on one, you could try and return your iPad Pro at an Apple Store but you should keep in mind you might not receive a new one, even if the device is still under the return policy.
