As promised, Xiaomi announced the new Redmi phones today in China. What makes these devices so special? That’s an easy answer: they offer good specs and a premium design at an incredibly low price. It’s a steal, really! #mobilemagic
Earlier this week, Xiaomi’s director of product management teased the new look of the budget-friendly phones on Twitter. We were pleasantly surprised to see the company go with this year’s winning combo: slim bezels and a 18:9 aspect ratio. Yes, the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus look just as beautiful as the LG G9 but are significantly cheaper.
There’s a single rear camera and a fingerprint sensor on the back of the device and there are multiple RAM and storage options. For example, you can get the 5.7-inch HD LCD Redmi 5 with 2 or 3GB of RAM and 16/32GB of storage. This model is powered by a Snapdragon 450 processor and stays alive thanks to a 3300mAh cell. All of that costs just 799 yuan (about $120) or 899 yuan ( around $135 for the maximum RAM and storage amount)! We told you it’s a bargain, didn’t we?
Even if you decide to go with the Plus version, you won’t break the bank. The standard Redmi 5 Plus model starts at 999 yuan (~$150), with the premium model priced at 1299 yuan ($180). For the cost of a fancy jacket, you get a device with a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display, 3/4GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of storage with a huge 4000mAh battery on board. Xiaomi even threw in a better processor, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 model.
Both smartphones are expected to start selling on December 12th in four colors: blue, pink, gold, and black.
