Blizzard Overwatch League Canceled Through April

PC: Blizzard Entertainment

Major events and conferences have been either canceled or postponed due to health and safety concerns surrounding COVID-19. E3 was canceled earlier today and it now looks like Overwatch League will be as well.

In a post by Blizzard Entertainment, the company announced that it will cancel all Overwatch League events scheduled in March and April. Specifics surrounding the canceled events are available on each team’s websites and social channels.

This move to cancel Overwatch League entirely for the next two months follows Blizzard’s previous moves surrounding the virus. According the The Verge, Overwatch League had previously canceled events based in China, moved them to South Korea, and then canceled them there as well as the virus spread globally.

Activision Blizzard Esports CEO Pete Vlastelica clarified an unclear point on the released statement: whether or not games would be canceled or still played even if the event itself (spectators and all) would be canceled. Vlastelica makes clear that the matches will happen as close to the original schedule as possible, even as the events themselves are canceled.
