That coffee-lover friend? You must have one, we all do. This Christmas, you can surprise him in the best way possible. Instead of another colorful travel mug, a startup came up with a portable coffee maker. One that’s capable of not just delivering a warm cup of joe, but grinding the beans and adding milk as well #objectmagic
Porta Presso is marketed as the first really portable espresso maker. Truth is, we’ve seen similar devices online for sometime now, but most od them depended on special pods or lacked the option to add milk. This device though, gives users the freedom to use the brand of coffee they like and serve espresso-based drinks like a barista would.
The lithium battery-operated machine has compartments for water, beans and milk. The liquids go in the back of the device, while the coffee beans have to be poured on top. Once users are done adding ingredients, they can choose the type of coffee drink they want from a companion app or the built-in LCD screen. Mochaccino, latte, capuccino and flat white are some of the options available.
The container can make up to three coffees from one charge. Each time, Porta Presso will boil the water to the required extraction temperature of 98°, applying the standard pressure of 17 bar. Unless otherwise specified by the user, the milk will be heated to 65°. The machine has the optimal settings by default when it comes to grinding the beans.
Once the coffee is done, Porta Presso pours it into a cup attached to the bottom of the device. This accessory comes in different colors, so you can choose one with the favorite shade of your friend.
Porta Presso is currently crowdfunding on IndieGogo. You can grab it for $165 (early bird price); unfortunately, your friend will have to wait until April 2018 to use it, when the company starts shipping the first devices. Until then, you can soothe the blow by stuffing their Christmas stocking with various types of coffee beans.
