This week, DJI released a pair of FPV goggles to go with their drones. Put them on and you’ll do more than just view the landscape from your drone’s point of view; with DJI Goggles, you will be able to control the aircraft #actionmagic
If you own a Mavic Pro, Phantom 4 or Inspire 2 drone, take a look at DJI Goggles. This first-person-view headset is equipped with two ultra-high-quality screens that grant a resolution of 1920×1080 per screen. That’s twice the amount of pixels of a typical 2K display, DJI boasts. If you look closely, you will also notice a side touchpad that can be used to manage smart flight features and see flight info from a Mavic Pro or Phantom 4. From there you can select one of the 5 flight modes – Active Track , TapFly, Terrain Follow, Cinematic Mode and Tripod Mode.
For another kind of experience, more similar to the standard one of an aircraft, you can select Fixed Wing Mode. But you might be more excited about Head Tracking, a feature of the goggles that enables you to control the drone with your head. Simply turn your head to move the drone on the yaw axis and straighten your head to cease the movement. Alternatively, you can move only the gimbal while a second pilot controls the drone with the master controller. Also, if you’re out with friends recording the environment, invite one of them to join the party. Up to two pairs of DJI Goggles can be used with the same drone.
The Goggles allow you to wear your own, prescription goggles inside and go quickly from third person view to FPV. The screens are intended to do more than just offer you a real time view of the grounds. They can be used to view files saved on an SD card thanks to the one built-in slot. Plus, DJI incorporated a HDMI port to encourage you to view movies and clips.
Interested in seeing the world through the eyes of a drone? DJI will starts shipping the headset starting with May 20 at the price of $597/ £499 / €549.
