Drones and Firefighting Robot Helped Reduce Damages in the Notre Dame Fire

Stories about the tragedy of Notre Dame began to surface, as the fire was finally tackled. The 850-year-old Gothic monument was in flames around 6 p.m, when around 500 firefighters came to the rescue, only to find themselves overwhelmed by the fire’s proportion.

The fire department’s massive efforts to save the cathedral included high-end technologies like drones and …a robot called Colossus.

The DJI Mavic Pro and Matrice M210 drones could capture close-ups and aerial images that helped the team get information on how intense the fire was and how it was spreading. They helped prevent the cathedral from being destroyed completely.

It’s worth nothing that more and more fire departments are counting on drones today because they are quickly deployed and more cost-effective than other options.

The response team at Notre Dame also deployed a robot firefighter named Colossus, as they anticipated the risk of heavy wooden pieces collapsing from the Notre Dame’s burning attic, endangering others.

Colossus was the hero of the fire, being able to stop huge fires from within the burning structure.
