New week, new #objectmagic to completely shake our world. This time, we’re talking about a special smartphone lens that can tell a man how healthy his sperm is…
Jaw dropped? We know, we know… It’s hard to believe, but researchers from the University of Illinois in Chicago (UIC) have found a way to help men avoid embarrassing visits to the fertility clinic. They developed a super thin lens that can be attached to the smartphone and magnify an image 555 times, making even sperm cells visible!
By looking at them directly, a certified doctor can tell if the man in question is having fertility problems, due to low sperm count, for example. While the lens is merely providing the evidence needed, not a diagnosis too, it certainly makes men’s lives easier.
The device can become a global success, given that the scientists have already put it on the market in Japan. Indeed, the lens doesn’t disappoint; in 50 tests made on separate sperm samples, the lens provided almost identical results to those that come out of fertility clinics. Besides, even if you decide to take the traditional route, the lens can prove of need in places where fertility clinics are scarce.
