Facebook Rolls Out 3D Photo Feature

During the F8 conference back in May, Facebook had announced that it was working on a feature that would make your usual 2D photographs appear three-dimensional in the News Feed.

Facebook stayed true to its word and now announced that the 3D feature will be rolling out to everyone and allow users to “bring scenes to life with depth and movement.”

How does it work? Not very different than how you would usually post a photo: simply take a photo in portrait mode and create a new post on Facebook. On the top right of the post screen, tap the menu icon and select “3D Photo”. You can post the photo of your choice as you normally would after that.

The photos can be viewed in VR too, via Oculus Go or Oculus Rift.

Facebook does advise the users to choose photos that have multiple layers of depth and feature subjects with contrasting backgrounds as well as solid edges and textures because that way the subject will stand out more and you will really get that 3D look out of your photo.

The feature should reach all Facebook users in the coming weeks.
