Facebook Users In the US & Canada Can Now Export Photos and Videos to Google Photos

Facebook users in the U.S and Canada will soon be able to export their Facebook photos and videos to Google Photos, due to a data portability tool the company is working on. The tool premiered in December, in Ireland and soon became available to international markets.

The tool is a result of Facebook’s participation in the Data Transfer Project. Along with giants, like Apple, Google, Microsoft and Twitter, the project’s purpose is to offer people ways to transfer data between online services.

The tool was launched in the launch in US and Canada today, with the statement:

“At Facebook, we believe that if you share data with one service, you should be able to move it to another. That’s the principle of data portability, which gives people control and choice while also encouraging innovation. Today, we’re releasing a tool that will enable Facebook users to transfer their Facebook photos and videos directly to other services, starting with Google Photos.”

The transfer can be done by navigating through the “Your Facebook Information” menu in Settings, then choosing “Transfer a Copy of Your Photos or Videos”. Then you have the option of downloading your Facebook information directly or transferring it to Google Photos.
